The village museum was opened in 1988 by the country- and history club and it is very happy to be able to show exhibition pieces out of Guetenbach at most. Guetenbach was the centre of the Black Forest clock manufacturing during the whole 19th century, mainly in the native workshop. Nearly 100 clock-makers always were busy, produced and sent their clocks into the whole world. Although very many clocks can be seen in the rooms of the museum, the museum not only shows clocks. Now it's time to begin the tour.

Schreibpult On the left side you see the desk of the former governor Franz Furtwängler, built this house in 1829 as a schoolhouse with a "Ratszimmer". Over the top left side the image of the builder of the clock works, Friedrich Faller, next to it Josef Stratz from Simonswald who has provided the community of Guetenbach with power, especially the clock-makers, in the year 1902. Both men have obtained a place of honour in the village museum because of their efforts for the clock-making of Guetenbach.

The names "Furtwängler" and "Faller" enjoyed a very good reputation at Guetenbach. Six generations of the well-known conductor "Wilhelm Furtwängler" were domiciled at Guetenbach as well as his grand-parents together with aunts and uncles. All Furtwänglers went abroad because of their jobs like archaeologist, professors of university or organ-builders. The name "Faller", represented by Leo Faller and his son Friedrich is for the ventureship in the village. Father and son built 4 clock-manufacturings together.

A coloured blackboard on the right side of the desk shows the "Uhrenglockengießer" Ehrenurkunde für Hermann Wehrle "Wilhelm Fackler". Mr. Fackler had the best reputation of the Black Forest. Nearly two third of the Black Forest clocks the stroke signal was designed by a bronze bell. On the left side of the desk you can see several photos of former mayors of Guetenbach. Among them there is Hermann Wehrle who rendered good services to the village for 27 years, wearing the service chain. On the opposite wall is an honour document for his term of office with a picture of Guetenbach painted by hand. Mr. Wehrle had the difficult task to build a system to provide water at Guetenbach.
